Blockout vs sunscreen roller blinds

Choosing between blockout and sunscreen fabric comes down to what you need from the room: darkness and privacy, or daylight with less glare.

Blockout fabric

Blockout limits light passing through the fabric, so it suits bedrooms, media rooms and anywhere privacy matters. It describes the fabric, not a guarantee of a completely dark room, because light can still enter around the edges and fittings. The window shape and how the blind is mounted affect the result.

Sunscreen fabric

Sunscreen filters sunlight and glare while keeping some view out, depending on the weave. It suits living areas and home offices. At night, with lights on inside, sunscreen does not give reliable privacy.

Why many homes use both

A dual roller blind combines a sunscreen layer for daytime with a blockout layer for night. We check the opening has room for the brackets and both blinds before recommending it.
