How much do curtains cost in Sydney?

Made-to-measure curtains are priced window by window, so two homes with the same number of rooms can end up with very different quotes. Here is what actually changes the price, where it is worth spending, and how to get an accurate number for your home.

What changes the price

  • Width and drop. Curtains are made from fabric that is wider than the window so they hang in full folds. A wide sliding door or a floor-to-ceiling window uses far more fabric than a small bedroom window.
  • The fabric. Sheers, blockout fabrics and linen-look weaves all sit at different price points, and so do different ranges within each type.
  • The heading style. S-fold (wave fold) curtains run on a track with evenly spaced carriers. Other headings use different hardware and different amounts of fabric.
  • Single or double track. Layering a sheer with a blockout curtain means two curtains and a double track, which costs more but gives you day and night in one window.
  • Tracks and fixing. Ceiling-fixed and wall-fixed tracks, long runs, corners and bay windows all affect the hardware and the time it takes to fit properly.
  • Motorisation. A motorised track adds to the cost, and is most worth it on very wide or hard-to-reach curtains.

Where it is worth spending

Spend on the rooms you live in most and the windows people see from the street. A good sheer in the living room and blockout in the bedrooms usually makes the biggest difference. In spare rooms, a single curtain or a roller blind is often enough.

Ways to keep the cost sensible

  • Have the whole home measured in one visit, so every window is planned and quoted together.
  • Pair sheers with blockout roller blinds instead of a second curtain where it suits the room.
  • Choose one or two fabrics for the whole home rather than a different fabric in every room.

What to compare between quotes

Check the fabric name and range, the heading style, whether the track is single or double, how the track is fixed, the warranty, the timeframe, and whether measuring and installation are included. Comparing those points tells you far more than the total on its own.

How we quote curtains

We come to your home for a free measure, bring fabric samples so you can see them in your own light, and quote every window. Our curtains come with a 5-year warranty and are installed in 3 to 4 weeks, and you deal directly with the owner from start to finish.
